News for April 10, 2024
This Sunday, April 14: In-person service at 10am
Rev Polly Moore will be preaching this Sunday on “The Beloved Disciple”, using the text John 19:25-27. The identity of “the disciple whom Jesus loved” has been in question for a long time. Who do you think John was referring to?
Stay after worship for a Fiesta Smorgy (Jorge’s cooking!) as we celebrate Polly’s retirement from serving as our pastor. Check with Marguerite about what to bring.
Continuing on into the afternoon, we’ll be writing postcards to get out the vote in Georgia for their congressional primary. If you would rather write yours at home, tell Polly how many you want and she’ll make a packet for you with everything you need.
The Giving Sunday offering for April is for the UCC's One Great Hour of Sharing. This is the global outreach fund that enables the UCC to help people around the world. Click on the link and watch the short video for an inspiring example.
Worship & Arts will meet after the service. Come help us plan the spring worship calendar.
Book Group (the one reading "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett's) will meet on Zoom at 7pm Sunday May 5th

Wed Discussion Group moving to Thursday
The Wednesday Discussion Group (we might need a new name) is moving to second and fourth Thursdays, starting on April 11, 7pm on Zoom. We'll be discussing Marcus Borg's great introduction to the study of the historical Jesus, "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time." This will be especially useful for our newer members, although everyone is invited. Even if you read the book the first time we did it, twenty years ago, you might enjoy seeing how your perspective has changed and what you have learned since then. Preface and Chapter 1 for the first meeting.

Quote of the week
“Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word ‘love’ here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace - not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.” -James Baldwin
